Video: Seattle's 'Tuba Man' beaten to death
SEATTLE - A street musician known to Seattle sports fans for playing the tuba and wearing funny hats outside stadiums has been robbed and beaten to death.
Police say 53-year-old Edward McMichael was attacked Saturday after midnight near a bus stop in the 500 block of Mercer Street.
He was treated for head wounds and died sometime Sunday or early Monday at his home.
Two 15-year-old suspects have been arrested for investigation of murder. Gang and homicide detectives are looking for three more suspects.
McMichael was a fixture at sporting events, whether it was before a Seahawks game, a Sonics game or a Mariner's game - even outside McCaw Hall on opera nights.
He clearly enjoyed the place he occupied outside the stadium - and in the hearts of fans.
Today, blogs are full of comments and memories of Tuba Man.
"I can't tell you how many times in the past years we saw and heard this gentleman entertain us as we went to sports and cultural events in Seattle. What a terrible loss," said one writer.
"May the Lord welcome you in to his fold Edward, Tuba and all," said another.
Police say the suspects they are looking for have only been described as being black males in their mid-teens. Anyone who may have seen the attack on Oct. 25 is urged to contact Seattle Police Homicide at 206 684-5550.
