SEATAC, Wash. — SEA Airport is still trying to bounce back after a cyberattack shutdown systems last week.
With more than 190,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport on Monday, staffers and volunteers have been assisting travelers because flight boards and bag claim monitors are still out of service.
"We’ve got virtually all of the international and low volume carriers are back on for ticketing and printing out bag tags and boarding passes that they needed to do by hand earlier in the week," said Perry Cooper, SEA Airport spokesperson.
Cooper said they are still doing some things by hand.
“The flight information boards and the bag claim information boards so we’re encouraging people to get their airline app make sure they can use that to get their boarding pass set up on that app," Cooper said.
Baggage claim was a major headache for many travelers Thursday and Friday but things have since gotten better.
“They had made an announcement on the plane so I knew sort of where I was going and I knew mine might come early so I got an app, gives me an update on text so I went to the little office and they were here, locked up," said Nancy Soule, a traveler at SEA Airport.
Cooper said many travelers were unaware there even was a cyberattack. Once all systems are back up and running they’ll make an after-action plan to help make sure something like this does not happen again, Cooper said.
“They may not be specific to every little thing that could potentially happen but we try to look at it from a holistic standpoint, what hazards could potentially happen then our emergency preparedness team comes back together with all of those folks that were involved and see what could we do better for the next time," Cooper said.
There is no timeline for when all systems at SEA Airport will be up and running but they are making progress.
