SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — The Spokane Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS) is hosting the free spay-neuter event "Spokane County SNIP" on Sunday, August 25.
SCRAPS says they have seen a considerable uptick in pregnant dogs in Spokane Valley, and often their litters of puppies end up at the shelter.
The main solution to overpopulation in area dogs is through spay-neutering efforts.
Spokane County SNIP will offer free spay-neuter procedures to 100 household-owned dogs for free.
Registration to take advantage of the spay-neuter services is required. You can sign-up and make a reservation here. There is a $25 fee to reserve your spot, but the money can either be donated or refunded after the procedure.
Also being offered for free are rabies and DA2PP vaccines, and they are offering microchips for dog owners living in Spokane County.
All donations at Sunday's event will go towards funding similar future events.
There are several organizations helping run Spokane County SNIP:
- Northeast Washington Spay and Neuter Alliance (NEWSNA) – will provide the mobile surgery trailer, surgical medications, liability insurance for labor/licensed professionals, scheduling and follow-up
- SCRAPS Hope Foundation – funding for medical supplies
- PetSavers – check-in and check-out crews
- Higher Ground Animal Sanctuary – skilled volunteers to assist the surgical teams, grant acquisition and distribution
- Murci’s Mission Rescue – skilled volunteers to assist the surgical teams
- The Furry Farm Rescue – skilled volunteers to assist the surgical teams
