SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane area public schools begin the 2024-2025 school year on Tuesday, September 3 and local police remind drivers to follow school zone speed limits.
The Spokane Police Department (SPD) says school zone speed cameras will be functional starting on Tuesday and fines will be sent to those violating the reduced speed limits.
SPD says there will be no warning sent in regards to the speed cameras being turned on because SPD only notifies people of new cameras.
SPD posted several videos to social media in collaboration with Spokane Public Schools encouraging people to slow down. They say that officers will be patrolling the areas to ensure that students are safe.
The Cheney Police Department also posted to social media reminding people to slow down and be aware of local school zones.
Public schools in the Cheney district began school on August 27.
"Thank you to all responsible drivers who help keep our school zones safe! Please remember to be mindful of speed regulations in these areas. Slow down and save lives!" said Cheney Police Department on Facebook.
