Sandpoint Pride 2024: What you need to know

The festivities include more than 40 community vendors, local artists, food trucks and performers.
Pride in the Park is a five-hour stretch where North Idaho’s LGBTQ+ community and those who love them gather to celebrate their history and look toward the future.

SANDPOINT, Idaho — The fourth annual Sandpoint Pride Festival is set to kick off Friday.

The two-day event will feature dozens of advocacy and community vendors, regionally touring drag queens, local artists, performers and food trucks, among other activities, according to a press release from the organizers.

The event will feature a new main stage for performers with room for guests to set up their own lawn chairs, blankets and other seating options.

The community is set to gather under the theme "Queering democracy for a politics of respect and empathy" with the goal to "affirm the dignity and equality" of the LGBTQ+ community and to celebrate their ongoing contribution to society.

Organizers warn parking in the granary district is limited and encourage attendees to walk, bike or use public transit to get to the event.

The pride festival is set to take place as temperatures reach upwards of 90 degrees Friday and Saturday. Sandpoint Pride said it plans to have water stations and shaded tents with water misters to deal with the heat. A full safety and first-aid team will also be present. Organizers encourage visitors to bring their own reusable bottles and to wear sun protection, such as sunscreen.

The organization said in addition to partnering with Sandpoint Police, it trained and scheduled over 25 "peacekeepers" to welcome guests and make sure they understand event expectations.

Organizers said they purchased hundreds of pride flags for visitors to take home with them and hang in a visible place at home or at their business on Saturday. The gesture is supposed to make Sandpoint more inclusive and highlight the support the LGBTQ+ community has in the area.

Sandpoint Pride has a full schedule of events and activities on its website.
