Sacajawea descendants speak at Sacajawea Middle School

Roseanne is from the Shoshone-Bannock tribe and is a direct descendant of Sacajawea. While teaching students Tuesday, she taught them about local tribal culture.

SPOKANE, Wash. — In honor of National Heritage Month, KREM 2 stepped inside Sacajawea Middle School to learn a history lesson on their namesake.

Roseanne, from the Shoshone-Bannock tribe and a direct descendant of Sacajawea, spoke to students, teaching them about local tribes and some native sign language.

"Sacajawea is one of the most famous women in the world," Sacajawea's ASB President, Ava Andrews, said. "For them to be in our school for us to experience, it feels special."

With the Thanksgiving holiday taking place this week, Roseanne also taught them how much of the food they eat comes from the Native culture.
