North Spokane Corridor roundabout interchange will be closed for construction beginning Monday, July 15

Detours and local access to businesses will be marked during the closure.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reports in a press release that the south roundabout at the North Spokane Corridor interchange with Freya Street will be closed for construction beginning on Monday, July 15.

WSDOT anticipates that the interchange will be closed until its scheduled completion on Saturday, August 3.

Road crews will close the south roundabout as well as the northbound off-ramp from the North Spokane Corridor to Freya Street.

The north roundabout that connects the North Spokane Corridor’s southbound on-ramps and off-ramps will remain open. The closure of the south roundabout will begin at the southern edge of the north roundabout and continue south to Francis Avenue.

Local access will be provided to businesses from Francis Avenue up to the south roundabout and access north will follow a signed detour that heads west on East Francis Avenue and then north on North Market Street to reconnect to North Freya Street.

The construction includes removing the current asphalt, which is a mix of chip seal and asphalt, and replacing it with concrete. WSDOT says that the concrete will be a more durable and smoother driving surface.

WSDOT reports that this work is part of the North Spokane Corridor Spokane River to Columbia Phase 2 project. The project includes things like removing and replacing curbing along North Market Street, drainage improvements and eventually adding vegetation to sidewalk areas.
