One person seriously injured in Spokane Valley trailer park fire

The occupant of the trailer was rushed to the hospital before being life-flighted to another hospital in Seattle.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a trailer park fire that broke out near East Mansfield Avenue off North Pines Road Tuesday night.

According to the fire department, neighbors reported hearing explosions around 9 p.m. and saw a 5th wheel fully engulfed in flames. 

When firefighters arrived they found the occupant of the 5th wheel on the front lawn with burns to his face arms and torso. The person was immediately transported to the hospital before being life-flighted to a hospital in Seattle. 

Officials say 13 Spokane Valley Fire Department helped fight the fire including two Battalion Chiefs, six engines, two ladder trucks, one safety officer, and two investigators.

The fire remains under investigation. 

In a press release, Spokane Valley Fire Department stressed the importance of smoke detectors and reiterated how they save lives by providing early warning for fire danger. 

Neighbors report that the explosion caused vibrations that could be felt several houses away. They also say that the explosion caused the electricity to go out in the trailer park until 2 a.m. on Wednesday morning. 

MANSFIELD FIRE UPDATE: Just before 9pm Tuesday night, Spokane Valley Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire on the 11900 block of E. Mansfield Ave. Arriving within minutes, crews found a a fully involved fifth wheel, with fire spreading to a nearby mobile home. The person living in the fifth wheel suffered severe burns and was intubated on scene before being transported to a local hospital. That patient was then flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The individual living in the neighboring mobile home was not injured. The fifth wheel is a complete loss and the mobile home, severely damaged by smoke and fire, is uninhabitable.
