SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The owners of The Quilting Bee, Scot Auble and Treasure Auble, announced their retirement on Wednesday, August 14 on a YouTube and Facebook livestream.

The Aubles bought the store in 2011 after Treasure took a quilting class at the shop and fell in love with the community.

In 2017, the Aubles designed and built the current location on Broadway Avenue in the Spokane Valley.

"It's been a great ride for us. Treasure and I just loved our time here," said Scot Auble in the livestream. "The community that supports The Quilting Bee is just awesome."

The Aubles will sell the business to Sara and Devin Cassan, who are also local business owners.

The Cassan couple operates the MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub franchise location in Coeur d'Alene since 2018.

To celebrate the new ownership, the shop will host the "4th Generation Celebration Event" from September 9 through 13.

The event will feature several gift basket giveaways and an opportunity for regular shoppers to meet the new owners.

The Quilting Bee is the largest locally-owned quilt shop in Spokane. It carries over 9,000 bolts of fabric and offers around 100 classes a month in an attempt to build a community for those interested in the art.

In 2022, the shop was chosen as a "Top 10 Quilt Shop" in the country by the Quilt Sampler Magazine and in 2024 the shop was voted the best quilt shop in Washington state in the national "Local Quilt Shop Contest."
