NEWPORT, Wash.--Administrators from the Newport School District said classes at Newport High School would be cancelled Tuesday, February 25.
Officials said they had made great progress in cleaning up the high school after a small fire that happened on Friday. They said the air in the school is safe and had passed clean air checks but thought an additional day of clean up was necessary in order to reduce the smell of smoke.
School authorities also said portions of the building such as the gym and woodshop may be off limits for several weeks as they continue the cleaning process.
Elementary and middle school students were on their regular schedule for Tuesday.
Classes and school will resume for Newport High School students on Wednesday, February 26.
