Spokane County Sheriff's Office, citizens work together to untangle owl from fence

The sheriff's office said the deputy and community members worked to stabilize and calm the owl, untangling its wing and freeing it from the wire.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — With the help of some community members, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) worked together in an attempt to save an injured owl in Spokane Valley last week.

On the morning of Halloween, the sheriff's office said a deputy responded to reports of an injured owl trapped in barbed wire on top of a fence at East Mansfield Avenue off North Pines Road in Spokane Valley.

The sheriff's office said the deputy and community members worked to stabilize and calm the owl, untangling its wing and freeing it from the wire.

Once the owl was freed from the wire, the deputy wrapped the owl in a towel to warm it up. The deputy then brought the owl to his patrol vehicle and put it on the driver's side floorboard, turning on the heater to help warm the owl up.

The sheriff's office said the deputy then contacted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, who took the owl to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Unfortunately, the owl did not survive due to the owl's extensive injuries.
