ROCHESTER, Wash. — One man was shot and killed by a Chehalis Tribal Police Officer inside the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester on Sunday evening.
Chehalis Tribal Police were searching for the man, identified by the Thurston County coroner as 33-year-old Darren Evans, to arrest him on two first-degree murder charges and a charge for unlawful possession of a firearm from Pierce County.
Tribal police had information that Evans was inside the Lucky Eagle Casino. They attempted to contact Evans inside, and during that interaction, a Chehalis Tribal Police officer shot Evans. Law enforcement officers attempted life-saving measures, but Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.
Because the incident involved Chehalis Tribal Police in their own jurisdiction, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the FBI were contacted. The Thurston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
TCSO will contact witnesses and gather evidence over the next week. Anyone who witnessed the shooting is asked to contact detectives@co.thurston.wa.us.
The casino will be closed while authorities investigate.
