SPOKANE, Wash.— Washington was named in the top five most innovative states of 2018 by a recent WalletHub study.
The study placed Washington state at number three. The only two states to beat out the Evergreen State were Massachusetts and Maryland.
The WalletHub article said innovation was a principal driver of U.S. economic growth and that in 2018 America will spend an estimated $553 billion on research and development.
WalletHub compared the 50 states and Washington D.C. with 22 key innovation-friendliness indoctrinators like share of STEM professionals and R&D spending per capita to tech-company density.
Idaho was listed smack in the middle at number 25.
The bottom states were West Virginia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
