OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The nine justices of the Washington Supreme Court have made history by appointing the first female clerk in state history.
Deputy Clerk Susan Carlson was sworn in last week by Chief Justice Barbara A. Madsen.
Carlson replaces long-time Clerk Ron Carpenter, who retired at the end of March after serving 10 years in the role. She will serve as the 9th Supreme Court Clerk in state history.
The clerk position was created in 1934 to maintain the court's records, files and documents.
