Social media reacts to Barefoot Bandit's desire to take flying lessons

SPOKANE, Wash. – He is known as the “barefoot bandit” and has a cult following. Colton Harris Moore is back in the news Tuesday after his two-year crime spree and his obsession with small airplanes landed him in prison.

Harris Moore took to the popular crowd funding site Go Fund Me to ask for donations for him to take flying lessons. On Tuesday morning, donations were rolling in, but by the afternoon the page was no longer taking donations.

We are not sure what is harder to believe. The fact that there are people actually giving him money, or that there’s a few people defending this guy on social media.

Notorious on Wikipedia and folk song or two on YouTube – Colton Harris Moore served time for 70 charges spanning six states and three counties.

He is best known though, for stealing planes – like the Cessna that cost Idaho farmer Pat Gardiner a few hundred grand.

“I was somewhat shocked that he had the nerve to ask the general public to fund flying lessons or anything else since he has a job with the attorney representing him,” Gardiner said.

That is right. Harris Moore has a job – a good one at that. He works in the office of his own defense attorney. We reached out to that attorney for comment about Moore’s GoFundMe, but have not heard back.

Most comments on social media said the idea was ridiculous, but one comment stuck out from the crowd. Gina Noirot loves the idea and said none of Moore’s crimes were hateful.

“He paid his dues and I wish him well on his future.”
