ATHOL, Idaho – Wildfires are not the only fires keeping crews busy. A home caught fire just south of Athol, Idaho on Thursday.
Tawnee Neblett did not expect to see what she did when she pulled down the road to her grandparents’ house south of Athol.
“Saw there was smoke at the end of the street and everywhere was blocked off down here and it freaked me out,” she said.
About an hour earlier, Timberlake Fire Department had received a call about a house on fire. When they arrived, they found a home engulfed in flames, and because of the dry conditions – they quickly called for reinforcements.
“It was paramount that we were able to get units on scene so quickly,” said Lt. Seth Michael with the Timberlake Fire Protection District. “They were able to get an initial knock on it, get the appropriate resources coming, that was very beneficial to keeping it from spreading.”
The fire did actually try to spread. Embers flew from the burning house lighting a small fire in the trees only feet from Neblett’s grandparents’ home.
“I’m trying to see where it’s at on the property, and all I’m seeing is the side of the house and three fire trucks over there,” she said. “It was really scary.”
The homeowners declined to speak to KREM 2 News, but we do know that no one was injured in the fire.
