The Mayor of Lapwai was killed in a crash near the Clearwater River Casino and Lodge Monday afternoon, according to a report from the Lewiston Tribune.
Iona “Ruth” McConville, 67, died from her injuries at the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Idaho State Police.
Police said McConville was trying to make a left hand turn from the south entrance of the Clearwater Casino to go southbound on Highway 95. A van driven was going northbound on Highway 95. Police said McConville failed to yield to the van and was struck on the driver’s side of her car.
An adult and two juveniles, who were passengers in the van, were treated at the scene.
In statement sent to the Lewiston Tribune, city officials said Lapwai City Hall will be closed Tuesday in honor of McConville.
“The city wishes to extend its condolences to the mayor’s family and many friends, colleagues and staff, in this time of loss,” the statement said.
