BOISE, Idaho — Thomas Creech, Idaho's longest death row inmate, has a new death warrant, with a date of execution of November 13, 2024.
Thomas Eugene Creech is an accused serial killer, who claimed to have killed as many as 42 people. Authorities focus on 11 deaths involving Creech, with murders happening all over the country. He's been convicted of 5 murders.
Earlier this year, a death warrant was served to Creech. When it came time for execution, Idaho Department of Correction's (IDOC) medical staff were unable to establish an IV line for the lethal injection.
The team of medical staff attempted eight times to establish an IV, but all were unsuccessful.
After the failed execution in February, Creech said a second attempt to execute him would be "cruel and unusual punishment" - violating his Eight Amendment rights, as previously reported by KTVB.
The state moved forward with a second death warrant on Oct. 16, 2024.
On Oct, 15, KTVB reported that Idaho will begin using deep central veins, like in the neck, chest or arm to execute prisoners with lethal injections. Changes have been made to the facility to allow these deep vein injections to happen, while maintaining the dignity of the prisoner.
The Federal Defender Services of Idaho stated, "Mr. Creech has spent more than 50 years in prison and is now suffering from significant mental health issues because of the trauma he was subjected to when the state failed to execute him. We hope the courts will recognize the cruel and unusual level of punishment that this remorseful and harmless old man has already been through, and stop a needless execution."
The Federal Defender Services of Idaho also adds that Creech's legal team is fighting on many fronts to save his life.
Creech is scheduled to be executed on Nov. 13, at 10 a.m.
