SPOKANE, Wash. — As ski season gets closer, Mount Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park hosted its Winter Pre-Funk Event to get families geared up for the winter sports season.
Mount Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park General Manager Jim van Loben Sels says the recent snow signals to the staff at Mount Spokane that ski season is just around the corner.
"The first snowstorm came and it dropped about 18 inches of snow and about 12 inches at the bottom of the lodge," said Sels. "Probably not going back to summer conditions, so it's time to get out and ski and board and get ready for winter activity."
The Pre-Funk event opened the lodge doors to community members who were looking to get an early start and included free ski wax, rental pre-fits, live music and family fun.
"If we have more snow up at this mountain, maybe there will be some powder skiing which will be so much fun," said Braydon Waldron, a Spokane elementary school student who attended the event.
Mount Spokane boasts its family-friendly venue that gives parents a place to teach their kids all things skiing and snowboarding.
"The staff remembers us, which is half the reason we come here, because we get treated so well," said Scott Stucker, a father who brings his kids skiing at Mount Spokane.
Sels says there are also several new activities that guests can look forward to going into the season.
"We have our handle tow, which is basically like a rope tow in our terrain park and then we are bringing tubing back to our operations as well which will be at lodge one," said Sels.
Discount season passes are only on sale until Tuesday, Nov. 12. On Wednesday, the passes go to full price for the season.
