MOSES LAKE, Wash. — A man died in a Moses Lake house fire late Friday afternoon.

According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office (GCSO), first responders were dispatched to a home on Blue Goose Road Northeast off Wild Goose Road Northeast in unincorporated Moses Lake at around 4 p.m. on Friday.

The sheriff's office said someone went to check on a man after seeing that the garage to his home had been open since Thursday.

The sheriff's office said the neighbor opened the front door of the home and found heat and smoke damage inside and the man on the floor.

GCSO said investigators believed a fire started inside the home and burned until the fire ran out of oxygen, causing the man to die due to him "being overcome by smoke."

GCSO said the coroner will identify the man, notify the family and conduct an autopsy.

The Grant County Fire Marshal and the sheriff's office's Major Crimes Detectives are investigating the fire.
