Man and dog dead after vehicle vs. pedestrian collision on North Division Street

A man was walking his dog when he was hit by a car on North Division Street.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man and his dog were killed in a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on North Division Street and Lincoln Road around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) says a 911 caller said a person was hit by a pickup truck and was lying in the road, unconscious.

Emergency medical personnel responded and began life-saving procedures while police closed down the roads near the intersection.

The man died on the scene due to injuries. Police later discovered a dog had also been killed in the collision.

The driver of the truck told SPD that they were traveling southbound on Division when another car traveling northbound swerved near the driver. The driver moved to avoid the other car and could not avoid the man who the driver claims was in the roadway.

Investigators with SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene to assist with an ongoing investigation.

SPD says the name of the man killed will be released at a later time by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
