SPOKANE, Wash. — A home located on the campus of Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center was demolished Wednesday morning. Mary’s Place was built in 1910, and owner Mary Gianetsas refused several offers to sell the property over the years.
According to Historic Properties of Spokane, the home was turned into an Italian restaurant, Mary’s Place, where she served Italian dinners and hosted weddings. The restaurant closed in the mid-1970s and Gianetsas passed away in 1978.
Her children were the owners after her mother passed. Her son, George Alex, ended up selling the home to Diamond Parking this year for $4.5 million. The property was initially put on the market for $6 million.
On August 10, 2023, Alex applied for a demolition permit.
