Local campus "favs" react to Zags' Pac-12 announcement

Jack & Dan's and Logan Tavern are excited to see a Coug vs. Zag rivalry in their bars as Gonzaga enters the Pac-12 Conference.

SPOKANE, Wash. — In the heart of Gonzaga campus sits local bars like Jack & Dan's and Logan Tavern — local favorite spots that provide spaces for students, families and fans to visit during games and campus events. Following the announcement that Gonzaga University will be joining the Pac-12 conference, the business community is excited for what this will bring.

Spokane has always been a mix of both Zag and Coug fans. But now as the schools become rivals, will the local businesses choose sides?

Jack & Dan's staff told KREM their loyalty holds strong for Gonzaga — as that is the way it has always been. But they are eager to welcome all fans and the business it brings. The bar warns customers that come game day in 2026, customers better get their tables early.

“Obviously, we are always going to be a 'Zag' bar first and foremost, that’s just kind of been our thing being across the street. But we support any Washington team all the time. We root for the Cougs during football, and obviously we do play them every once in a while, and we definitely see a divided crowd in here," said Ed Eschenbacher, Jack & Dan's bar manager.

Right across the street at Logan Tavern, they also cannot wait to see Spokane come together for both teams. More teams and more fans — means more cash flow.

"Having a close rivalry game, is going to be top notch, and it’s only going to help the businesses around here also… based on my paycheck go Zags. But if it’s for the love of the game, go Cougs," said Logan Tavern's cook, Ed McGraw.

McCarthy Athletic Center, better known as "The Kennel" has been a competitive place to get a seat to watch a Gonzaga game. When seats get full, local businesses are ready to provide a fun and competitive atmosphere right down the street from all the action.

Although, Gonzaga does not officially enter the Pac-12 Conference until 2026, this change has made it a very exciting time for all Pac-12 fans in Spokane.
