SPOKANE, Wash. — Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday that celebrates King's birthday and legacy. Born Jan. 15, 1929, MLK Jr. Day is the official day of service and celebration of his civil rights work and life.
Several events are planned to honor Dr. King and his activism work throughout the long weekend. The Spokane NAACP is hosting MLK Week, hoping to spread the message of, "Learn from our past to move forward." The events kick off Saturday, January 13 and extend into late next week.
Events are as follows:
Monday, January 15: Create signs @ Gonzaga University (UMEC -Hemmingson 215) 9 - 9:40 a.m.
Head downtown, 9:40 - 10 a.m.
MLK Rally & March @ Spokane Convention Center, 10 - 11:30 a.m.
MLK Resource Fair @ Spokane Convention Center, 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
MLK Teach In - Black History 101 Mobile Museum @ Spokane Convention Center, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Tuesday, January 16: Black History 101 Mobile Museum @ Gonzaga University (Hemmingston 1st Floor), 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Wednesday, January 17: MLK Service @ Gonzaga University (GU) Chapel (College Hall), 12 - 1 p.m.
Thursday, January 18: Race Reconciliation Film Screening & Dialogue @ GU (Hemmingson Auditorium) 6 - 7:30 p.m.
