SPOKANE, Wash. — Post-Thanksgiving is often the time ski resorts in the Inland Northwest start operating for the season. But with a pretty quiet snow season so far, many resorts are changing their plans. Here is what each resort in eastern Washington and north Idaho has said about their opening plans in 2023.
Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park has a planned opening date of December 2 but said it may be delayed.
In an update posted on Nov. 21, the resort said, "A minimum 18-24 inches of snow are required to ensure safe and enjoyable skiing and snowboarding." At that time, the summit had about six inches of snow.
Mt. Spokane said if it is not able to open on Dec. 2, it plans to hold a Pray for Snow Party at Lodge 2 from noon to 4 pm.
49 Degrees North has not yet reported an opening date on its website. In an update on Facebook, the resort said, We are waiting for the weather to deliver, but we are getting closer every day!" That was posted on Nov. 13.
49 Degrees North said it has begun making snow, per its snow conditions report.
Schweitzer Mountain opens for the season on Saturday, Nov. 25. The resort had hoped to open on Black Friday but said they pushed it back due to "the warm and wet conditions of early November, combined with recent temperature fluctuations."
Schweitzer will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on opening day.
"This extra day allows our dedicated team to enhance the skiing and riding experience by providing an additional 24 hours for snowmaking on Midway," they posted on Facebook.
As for what terrain is open, the resort reports: Midway trail only, accessed by Basin Express quad. (Please stay on the groomed trail) There will be no beginner terrain available at this time.
Silver Mountain opened for the season on Friday, Nov. 24 with limited terrain available.
For the weekend of Nov. 24-26, Silver Mountain will be operating the bunny hill magic carpet. Skiing and snowboarding will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the beginner hill only. Tubing will also be available, along with gondola rides.
Silver Mountain is targeting Friday, Dec 1 for its official opening day.
Lookout Pass posted it is hoping to open for the season on Dec. 1, weather permitting. The resort said they will open "as soon as the snow gets deep enough,"
