Spokane man, Coeur d'Alene man killed in helicopter crash near Davenport

Lincoln County Fire District 6 Chief Brandon Larmer confirmed with KREM 2 that both people on board the helicopter died in the crash.

DAVENPORT, Wash. — Several agencies continue to investigate a deadly helicopter crash that happened Wednesday near Davenport and Harrington.

The Lincoln County Coroner identified 68-year-old Ryan Sandvig from Spokane and 63-year-old Mark Manteuffel from Coeur d'Alene as the two men who died in the crash. The Lincoln County Coroner said a cause of death has not been determined yet, saying it probably won't come for some time.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed there were only two people on board the R-44 helicopter that crashed around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Davenport Fire Department says they called in help from several county agencies, including Lincoln County Fire District 6 following the crash.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating what caused the crash.

NTSB said the helicopter's flight originated from Boeing Field. NTSB also said the helicopter that crashed was a Robinson R-44.

On the night of the crash, Darcy Linstrum said she heard a strange noise and came out to her back deck to find out what it was.

She said she never imagined it would be a fatal helicopter crash. Linstrum said the area commonly sees air traffic, but only this time, it sounded strange.

The helicopter crash also started a small fire, which was quickly put out.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
