Leg stolen from bronze statue near Spokane Arena found in Riverfront Park

The Spokane Public Facilities District said maintenance crews in the park found the bronze leg Wednesday, exactly one week after it disappeared.

SPOKANE, Wash — The stolen missing leg from the "Leap" sculpture outside the Spokane Arena has been found. But, the question of who stole the leg still remains.

The Spokane Public Facilities District said maintenance crews in the park found the bronze leg Wednesday, exactly one week after it disappeared. the district made calls to local scrap yards, telling them to be on the lookout for the piece.

Karen Mobley, a local artist and art consultant who knows a lot about the piece, actually predicted the leg would show up in the park.

"We want the community to be on alert that this leg might show up somewhere after it's been taken," Mobley said. "Might show up in a park or somebody might decide they want to get rid of it so it shows up in some unusual place."

Thankfully, staff at Riverfront Park knew where this piece belongs, They returned it to the Spokane Arena. At this time, it's unclear how soon it could be reattached and how much that will cost.
