Second suspect involved in Latah Co. homicide sentenced to probation
LATAH COUNTY, Idaho – One of the suspects who pleaded guilty to trying to cover up the death of a Pullman High School senior, Tim Reeves.
Matthew McKetta was one of two men charged in the incident. The other suspect, Keagan Tennant, 17, pleaded guilty to several felonies earlier this year stemming from the shooting.
The homicide occurred in rural Latah County in late July. Officials said Reeves’ body was found in a wooded area along State Highway 8 between Troy and Deary. LCSO said he died from a gunshot wound.
Court documents showed a witness told investigators Tennant had a rifle while Reeves had a pistol and they were pointing them at each other at the time of the shooting, in the style of “Russian roulette.” The witness said McKetta and Tennant then moved the body and led officials to the place he believed the body had been left.
McKetta and Tennant fled the scene after the fatal shooting and were arrested a few days later in Curlew, Washington.
The judge Monday sentenced McKetta for two charges: felony grand theft and concealing evidence. McKetta previously pleaded guilty to those charges, and prosecutors dropped three additional felonies as a result of that plea.
The judge “withheld judgment” for McKetta Monday – meaning he was not found guilty nor was he acquitted – and sentenced him to five years’ probation for each charge to run concurrently, the Latah County Second District Court clerk said.
McKetta was also ordered to pay court costs.
