ELK CITY, Idaho – A major landslide buried a 500-foot area about ten miles west of Elk City in rock and debris almost 40 feet deep late Thursday afternoon.
Crews from the Idaho Transportation Departments are developing a plan to safely remove the debris along with the help of geologists and landslide experts.
A timetable for reopening the route has not yet been determined.
Crews are facing issues with what to do with the slide material and assessing stability. ITD has no nearby materials that could hold such a massive quantity.
