SPOKANE, Wash. -- KREM 2's very own Danamarie McNicholl is making waves in the Evergreen State.
On Saturday night, the Miss Washington Scholarship Organization gave McNicholl the crown and a $10,000 scholarship.
Miss Washington is a full-time job. That means McNicholl will be leaving our KREM 2 team to pursue this exciting opportunity. We will miss her but are very excited for her journey toward the Miss America competition, which begins September 9.
McNicholl began her involvement in the Miss America Organization at 14 years old. Nine years later, she competed alongside 25 other women for the Miss Washington crown, a crown that represents style, service, scholarship and success.
McNicholl is a dedicated musician who has played the piano for a great deal of her life. She also has a passion for disability advocacy, which became her Miss Washington platform: Embracing America's Disabled. She believes that everyone deserves the same opportunities to play sports and be an athlete, and has worked with ParaSport Spokane throughout her time in the city.
Now, she will go on to work with adaptive wheelchair programs throughout the state of Washington and in Children's Miracle Network hospitals.
