Woman calls 911 over botched drug deal, three arrested

HAYDEN, Idaho – The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office arrested a three people who they after one of them contacted deputies to report an alleged robbery and botched drug deal.

According to deputies on Saturday February 13, deputies were called to a reported battery near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Maraboy Drive in Hayden.

The caller, who was later identified as Tamara D. Mobeck, reported she and her friend, Cole E. Wyant had picked up another Cody R. Smotherman from a gas station so they could get “high.”

Just west of the gas station, Wyant pulled his car to the side of the road where he allegedly handed Smotherman some heroin, deputies said. Smotherman, while seated in the back of the car, then sprayed Wyant with bear spray and fled the car instead of paying him for the drugs.

When deputies arrived, they found both Wyant and Mobeck suffering the effects of the bear spray. Wyant, who had an active warrant for burglary and grand theft, was treated at the scene and subsequently arrested on the warrant as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance (heroin) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with Intent to Use.

Wyant is currently in custody on those charges with a bond set for him at $60,300.

Mobeck was also arrested by deputies on possession charges and Harboring a Fugitive, and Frequenting a Location Where Drugs are Used. Mobeck was released from jail after posting bond in the amount of $20,600.

Smotherman was located on Tuesday during an unrelated traffic stop. Deputies said after questioning him, he was arrested for robbery and also charged with battery. Smotherman is currently being held with a bond of $20,000.

CORRECTION: Previous reports misidentified Mobeck as a fugitive. Mobeck was not a fugitive and did not have a warrant out of her arrest at the time of the 911 call. Wyant had an active warrant at the time of the call.
