POST FALLS, Idaho -- Officers took two burglary suspects into custody after they returned to the scene of the crime.

Andrea E. Evitts, 39 and John D. Clark, 41 were taken into custody November 3.

A Post Falls couple said they were checking up on a vacant house belonging to a deceased family member when they found the out house burglarized. They said they were setting up lights inside the house -- to make it look lived-in -- when they noticed an SUV idling outside.

The couple said they watched the SUV drive slowly by, turn around, and pull into the driveway. The couple said they got into their car and turned on their headlights, and the SUV drove off.

The Post Falls couple called authorities who followed the SUV to Spokane Street and 1st Ave. The driver, Evitts, was initially taken into custody for an outstanding warrant and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers searched the car and discovered a number of items they said belonged to the Post Falls home owners, including a license plate, driver's license, jewelry, military service medals and tools. Clark was also arrested.

Authorities said Evitts and Clark told conflicting stories about how they got possession of the items. They were arrested on numerous charges including burglary, grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and criminal possession of financial transaction cards.

Evitts was also booked into jail for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance (meth).

Both Evitts and Clark made their first appearance in court November 4.
