COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A former Coeur d’Alene Resort employee was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Thursday for one charge of Grand Theft.
Tony Parks was the dock master at the Coeur d'Alene Resort for years. According to Coeur d'Alene Police, he issued phony cash refunds and pocketed cash from the registers during his time there. He accepted a plea deal on June 6 to one count of Grand Theft. Under the agreement, prosecutors said Parks has waived his right to appeal and no additional charges will be brought forward.
Parks’s sentence has two years fixed and eight years indeterminate, meaning he is guaranteed to spend two years in prison and his last eight will depend on certain factors while he is in custody.
Authorities said he stole nearly half a million dollars dating back to 2005. The Defense said Parks only admitted to taking $126,000 and blamed poor bookkeeping by the resort for the higher amount.
The prosecutor said that Parks also stole from the community because the company that owns the resort, Hagadone Corporation, also donates a lot of money to the North Idaho area. He will have to pay $10,000 in restitution to the Hagadon Corp.
