COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho -- A man accused of causing a deadly boat crash took the stand for the second time in his own trial on Wednesday but said he does not remember much about the accident.
Dennis Magner is facing manslaughter for that boat crash two years ago on Lake Coeur d'Alene that killed three people.
Fighting some emotion, Magner said he does not have memory of the impact. Magner said his memory ended just a few hundred feet before the crash happened. Prosecutors alleged he was intoxicated but the defense has said he received a concussion in the crash and a head wound.
"I hadn't seen this collision coming. And then I had no recollection for a time period afterwards. And that was very confusing," Magner said.
The defense has emphasized that the boat Magner hit did not have any lights on it.
"The information that you related, pretty clearly put the blame on the other boat, didn't it,” Kootenai County Prosecutor Barry McHugh said.
When it was the prosecution's turn to question Magner, they called his lack of memory into question. Court documents stated that Magner, in the days following the crash, gave an account of what happened to a detective and said that one of his passengers was driving.
While it is not clear when this trial will end, closing arguments could take place either Thursday or Friday.
