Idaho reminds paddleboard operators to have safety gear

The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is reminding paddle board users that the crafts are considered vessels when operated outside of marked swimming areas.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is reminding paddle board users that the crafts are considered vessels when operated outside of marked swimming areas.

This means they are required to have safety equipment.

State agency officials said a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket must be on board as well as a sound-producing device such as a whistle.

Paddle board operators without proper safety equipment are subject to a $99 fine.

Idaho also requires paddle board users to purchase an invasive species sticker for $7. Failure to display the sticker can result in a $72 fine.
