Idaho awards Medal of Honor to Sgt. Greg Moore and Elmore deputies

BOISE, Idaho -- Sergeant Greg Moore of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and two Elmore County deputies were honored Wednesday afternoon at the Statehouse for their courage in the line the duty. Lieutenant Governor Brad Little awarded the Idaho Medal of Honor posthumously to Sgt. Moore who died in the line of duty. Chief Deputy Mike Barclay and Sgt. Kyle Moore of the Elmore County Sheriff's Office also received the medal.

Little said the men "acted with extraordinary heroism in the face of grave danger to your own lives and went above and beyond the call of duty."

Sgt. Moore was shot on May 5, 2015 after attempting to stop a suspicious man in an area where several car break-ins had been reported.

The other two recipients were involved in a high-speed pursuit on August 2, 2016 that began near Hammett when the suspect abandoned his vehicle and pointed a gun at passing motorists and then the officers. Both officers fired at the man, who later died.

“Their actions exemplify what it means to be an Idaho peace officer. I would like to commend Chief Deputy Barclay and Sgt. Kyle Moore for risking their personal safety while protecting the public in a very dangerous situation. Sgt. Greg Moore’s selection as a recipient also highlights his career of brave and dutiful public service -- and is something his family and friends can be very proud of," added Attorney General Lawrence Wasden.

A ceremony to honor Idaho firefighters will be held September 8, 2017 in Boise.
