BOISE, Idaho — Slushy, icy, wet, dry. The roads may be all of those things at once this winter. These driving conditions may be challenging for those new to Idaho winters. That's where Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) and Idaho State Police (ISP) come in.
For the first time, these two organizations are coming together to offer free, informative winter driving safety classes in the Treasure Valley.
The goal of this partnership is to help drivers of all ages and abilities navigate Idaho's winter roads.
According to a news release from ITD, there is an increasing need for education on winter driving conditions. The course is open to all drivers, but slightly more geared to younger drivers who may not have experience driving in winter conditions.
ITD said topics addressed in the class will be:
- Proper vehicle preparation
- Equipment for winter driving
- Understanding road conditions
- Driving tips for snow and ice
- How to handle crashes
- Snowplow safety
The class, taught by ISP troopers and ITD operators, has limited seating. Classes are filling up quickly and attendees must register online.
The class schedule goes as follows:
Wednesday, Dec. 4 - 6-7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 7 - 11a.m-12:30 p.m.
