SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane Parks and Recreation announced on Thursday that Indian Canyon Golf Course will be renovating its bunkers by re-shaping, creating new drainage and liners and placing new sand.

Construction is set to begin Monday, September 23, and is expected to last around 4 weeks.

During that time, the city will offer a $5 discount on 18-hole rounds Monday through Thursday during all tee times. The discount will also be offered on Friday mornings until noon.

The discount is offered because the course will have rotating temporary greens on 1 to 2 holes at a time.

Regular rates will apply on Friday afternoons and on weekends as the course will be able to be played as normal with no temporary greens.

“Bunker renovation at Indian Canyon was one of the most requested on-course improvements from golfers in our master plan,” said Mark Poirier, the golf manager for the City of Spokane. “Our golf courses are funded entirely through golf fees, and we invest these funds in ways that have a big impact to the quality of play and add community value to our courses. Our recent irrigation renovations are an example of this, and we’re pleased to be doing some above-ground projects as well.”

The renovation will be carried out by Ridgetop Golf and the project is anticipated to cost around $300,000.

While the bunkers are under construction, warranty work on sprinkler heads and course turf aeration will also be completed to minimize the impact on golfers.

The City of Spokane also announced that other golf course projects are scheduled in the coming months.

They say the Creek at Qualchan will receive new irrigation water pumps and a new pump house in early October.

The city says Qualchan's pumps are at risk of failure due to age and the project will be funded by the city';s water department.

The course will remain fully open during construction and the new pumps are expected to be operational by the spring of 2025.

Additionally, a cart path and parking lot project is being pursued at Downriver Golf Course.

The city says the cart paths along the practice green and holes 1, 10 and 18 will be improved along with portions of the parking lot as early as this fall.
