LELAND, Idaho — Two Idaho inmates charged in connection with an ambush at a Boise hospital have officially been indicted for murder.
28-year-old Nicolas Umphenour is accused of helping 31-year-old Skylar Meade by shooting three corrections officers then helping Meade escape custody at a Boise hospital.
According to ISP, the two are facing a murder charge in Nez Perce County for the death of 83-year-old James Mauney. ISP says Meade and Umphenour were driving through North Idaho in a stolen car when they encountered Mauney. Police believe Mauney was taken in his Chrysler Pacifica to a desolate area near Leland, Idaho then killed.
Law enforcement found Mauney's body and the Civic near Leland, Idaho on March, 20.
On March 21, ISP found Meade and Umphenour in Twin Falls County, Idaho. Meade was stopped and arrested. Umphenour tried to run but he was also arrested. ISP said no shots were fired during the arrests.
This case remains under investigation, and detectives continue investigating the murder of 72-year-old Gerald "Don" Henderson near Orofino.
