Idaho Sled Dog Challenge returning this winter: what you need to know

The Idaho Sled Dog Challenge is returning to the West Central Mountains of Idaho Jan. 27-Feb. 5, 2025, for its seventh year.

CASCADE, Idaho — The Idaho Sled Dog Challenge is returning this winter, but with some changes.

Organizers are changing the 300-mile race to a 200-mile race following wildfires over the summer that affected part of the trail. Organizers are also expanding the event to celebrate and include Sled Dog Week, which is January 27-31.

The event is taking place from January 27 - February 5. 

There are multiple races taking place throughout the week, along with other events people competing should know about, which includes the following

  • 52-mile Warm Lake Stage Race
    • January 29-30
  • Ceremonial Start
    • February 2
  • Vet checks
    • February 2
  • 100-mile race
    • February 3
  • 200-mile race
    • February 3

Organizers say the 100-mile race is expected to end on February 4, while the 200-mile race is expected to end on February 5.
