Ski season officially underway in Idaho: Here is what you need to know

Lookout Pass kicked off ski season in Idaho after opening on Friday.

MULLAN, Idaho — Ski season is officially underway in Idaho.

Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area is the first ski area to open in Idaho. Lookout Pass will be open this weekend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this weekend, Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10. Chair 1 opened on Friday, and Chair 5 will open on Saturday.

Sixteen trials on the front of the mountain opened on Friday, with 14 more set to open at Eagle Peak on Saturday. Trails at the Upper Rainbow Ridge and Tamarack which usher guests to Chair 5 will also open this weekend.

Tickets for adults cost $47 for adults, active military and veterans. Tickets for college students, youth and seniors cost $35.

Lookout Pass will close next week, but plans to reopen next weekend, starting Friday, November 15.

"Typically, we shoot for the second or third week in November, this is a little early," Matthew Sawyer, director of marketing at Lookout Pass, said.

Several other Idaho ski areas are expected to open this month:

  • Grand Targhee Resort and Schweitzer: November 22
  • Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area and Silver Mountain: November 23
  • Kelly Canyon Resort, Gateway to Kelly Canyon and Sun Valley Resort: November 28
  • Brundage Mountain Resort and Soldier Mountain: November 29 (conditions permitting)

Here is when other Idaho ski areas will open this winter:

  • Lost Trail Ski Area: December 5
  • Tamarack Resort: December 6 (possibly November 29 if conditions allow)
  • Magic Mountain Ski Resort: December 7 target sate
  • Pebble Creek Ski Area: December 13
  • Rotarun Ski Area: December 21
    • Saturdays and Sundays through January, night skiing Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Snowhaven Ski Area and Tubing Hill: December 21
  • Bald Mountain Ski Area: December 26
  • Pomerelle Mountain Resort, Cottonwood Butte Ski Area and Little Ski Hill: TBD
