Body recovered from vehicle that went over cliff in Grant County

Sheriff deputies responded after getting reports from people who spotted the vehicle on a shale slide about 100 feet from the Columbia River's shoreline.

GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — Sheriff deputies in Grant County recovered a body on Saturday from a vehicle that went over a cliff overlooking the Columbia River.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), they responded to the area of Crescent Bar, which is located about 25 miles southeast of Wenatchee.

Deputies responded around 3 p.m. after getting reports from people who spotted the vehicle on a shale slide about 100 feet from the river's shoreline. Deputies said witnesses found the body inside the vehicle.

First responders used a Sheriff’s Marine Unit boat and climbed up to the vehicle from the Columbia River to recover the body.GCSO said the vehicle drove off Ancient Lakes Road and went over the cliff sometime overnight. It ended up stopping about 1,000 feet below the cliff’s edge. 

The identity of the body has not been released at this time.
