Food & Yard Waste collection services Spokane running through November

The City of Spokane wants to remind you that food and yard waste collection services run from March through November before they're suspended in the winter.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The leaves are changing color and will soon fall off the trees, and with that comes the end of food and yard waste collection in the City of Spokane.

The City of Spokane wants to remind you that food and yard waste collection services run from March through November before they're suspended from December through February.

Customers can get their green cart for their green waste and put it out on the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of the garbage day pickup. The cart can take the following items:

  • Food Scraps: Meats, dairy products, fruits and vegetables, breads, eggshells and nutshells, coffee grounds, and tea bags.
  • Food-soiled Paper: Pizza boxes, paper towels & napkins, non-shiny paper plates and cups, paper egg cartons, paper grocery bags with food scraps, and coffee filters.
  • Yard Debris: Grass, leaves, weeds, pine needles, thatch, plant trimmings, small amounts of sod, and branches less than 3 inches in diameter.

The City collects it and sends it for composting. Anyone who needs to empty their card during the winter months can pay an extra charge of $5.19. Click here for utility rates.

The City said customers must keep the yard waste service for at least a year. Anyone who cancels their service before a year passes must pay a $35.15 restocking fee.
