PORTLAND, Ore. — The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office on Friday identified the three people killed last weekend when a small plane crashed into a row of townhomes just outside Portland after reportedly experiencing "issues with controllability" moments after takeoff.
The Cessna 421C was on a maintenance test flight from the nearby Troutdale Airport, according to Air Safety Investigator Michael Hicks with the NTSB.
The pilot of the plane, 73-year-old Michael C. Busher, and the flight instructor, 79-year-old Jacqueline K. Whitford, were the two people onboard and were both killed, Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said.
The plane struck a set of power transmission lines before crashing into a unit in a row of townhomes in Fairview, about a mile and a half west of the airport, killing one resident, 75-year-old Barbara J. MacDonald, MCSO said.
Two other people on the ground suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics at the scene.
Surveillance video from a nearby RV park captured the final moments before the plane went down. It shows the plane clipping the power lines, bursting into flames.
According to Gresham Fire, the plane hit the second unit in a row of eight townhouses, and the impact and fire destroyed that unit and the ones to either side.
