Excessive heat watch hits the Inland Northwest this week

Thursday will bring triple-digit temperatures to all areas of our region.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Dangerously hot conditions are moving into eastern Washington and North Idaho this week, according to National Weather Service officials.

An excessive heat watch is in effect Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening of this week. Wednesday temperatures are set to rise into the upper 90s and lower triple digits, and Thursday will bring triple-digit temperatures to all areas of the region.

Officials said some moderation is expected on Friday but temperatures will still remain dangerously high for outdoor activities.

The excessive heat watch means hot temperatures and limited overnight relief will increase chances for heat-related illness, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Heat stress is also possible for livestock and outdoor pets.

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned rooms and out of the sun, and check up on neighbors and relatives.

The hottest temperatures will occur between noon and 7 p.m. each day.
