EWU players released from hospital after shooting in downtown Spokane

Dehonta Hayes and Keith Moore were shot early Saturday morning in downtown Spokane. They were initially taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Two Eastern Washington University football players injured during a shooting in downtown Spokane on Saturday have been released from the hospital, according to a university spokesperson.

Dehonta Hayes and Keith Moore were shot early Saturday morning near North Division Street and Main Avenue on the edge of downtown Spokane. The area is home to several popular bars and is often crowded on weekend evenings.

Hayes and Moore were initially taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Moore thanked people for their support following the shooting via Twitter on Monday morning.

“I’m a firm believer that God works in mysterious ways! He definitely watched over my brother and I the other night! I just want to thank everyone for your prayers. I love you all,” he wrote.

Both players are listed on the preseason depth chart as projected starters for the 2019 season.

The university spokesperson was unable to comment on the players’ medical conditions due to FERPA laws but university leaders have said both players are expected to make a full recovery.

KREM 2 has reached out to EWU head coach Aaron Best for an update on the players’ timelines for returning to practice. University leaders have said they are working with Best to monitor the situation.
