SPOKANE, Wash. — You can see the damage before you step inside at HeatPraxia in downtown Coeur d'Alene. Chunks of iced-over carpeting, and water-damaged windows, but it's what is behind their doors that may mean the business needs to shut down for some time.
"You know you have the misfortune of something like this happening," HeatPraxia co-owner, Joel Cruz said.
Tuesday, as Cruz opened up Coeur d'Alene's HeatPraxia, reality of flooding due to a burst pipe hit hard.
"Walking up to it looked like a steam room. It was hot water actually coming down. When I walked in it, it was like you were at a waterpark. Water just pouring down like a shower," he said.
Other shops in the historic downtown Coeur d'Alene building also had damage, but Cruz said HeatPraxia took the brunt of it.
“Getting ready to grow and scale and overnight, it’s all kind of taken away and set us up for a lot of steps backward.”
Now the small business's future is foggy. Some clients are still paying on their accounts, Cruz shared that he hopes the shop will be remodeled or rebuilt elsewhere.
They are waiting to see what insurance could cover, but the reality is a ceiling-to-floor fix may mean a long break.
“Serving a community that needs this type of natural wellness, and to have it stripped away totally sucks. It totally sucks," Cruz said.
