GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — A 9-year-old from Othello was killed in a crash just south of Warden Monday morning after the vehicle he was traveling in hit a patch of ice and spun off the roadway.
According to a Facebook post from the Grant County Sheriff's Office, the child was the only fatality in the crash. Three other occupants in the car, the child's mom and siblings, were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Their names have not been released at this time.
Deputies said the car, a 2005 GMC Yukon, was driving north on Road U-Southeast with cruise control when it hit a patch of ice,. This caused the driver to lose control, at which point the vehicle rolled and ejected the 9-year-old. Deputies said the child's mom started doing CPR until responders arrived and took over. Tragically, the 9-year-old died at the scene.
Roads U-SE and 12-SE were closed due to the crash.
