SPOKANE -- Spokane County has agreed to settle with the family of a Spokane Valley man who died after a violent encounter with Sheriff's deputies.

In May, 2007, three Spokane County Sheriff's deputies entered a mobile home on the 6800 block of East 5th, while investigating a small fire and suspected identity theft. Inside the home, they found Trent Yohe, 37, unresponsive. Yohe appeared to have a seizure and became combative when deputies tried to help. Yohe was tasered, and his hands and feet were bound. He was hospitalized after the incident and died more than a week later. Toxicology testsshow Yohe was high on meth at the time.

Yohe's family will receive $50,000 from the settlement with Spokane County. Family representatives say that money will go toward a college fund for Yohe's daughter. State health officials agreed not to sue Yohe's estate for hospital bills.

No charges were filed from the incident.
