Coeur d'Alene tailoring business destroyed by fire finds new home

720 Haberdashery was one of several businesses displaced after flames forced inhabitable conditions.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Luis Gomez vowed to get back on his feet and keep moving after a disastrous fire destroyed his tailoring business in Coeur D'Alene.

“You see your hard work and then you see it burning up in smoke,” Gomez said.

On the day of the fire, Gomez, who owns 720 Haberdashery, said he would triumph over this moment. Now, he’s opening a new store on the same street that the fire took place.

“It’s not easy, you just have to grind. That’s all you’ve got to do is grind," he added

A few hours after the fire, his wife got notified of available space from their neighboring building. The couple checked it out the next day and, shortly after, they came to a deal for the shop.

The number 20 holds value to Gomez and his family. 720 Haberdashery is the name of his business with the digits representing moments like his wife’s birthday and their wedding anniversary.

Now, the number 20 aligns with the day when he's officially back in business on Feb. 20.

“There’s a lot of good things happening. That same day it happened, a lot of beautiful things happened," he said.

Gomez says the support from the community has been a help in getting things back to normal. The shop will have an official grand opening on the first day of spring in March.
